Congrats Dr. Martha Dodson

I wanted to congraulate my sister-in-law Martha Dodson on her new degree, a doctorate. She is a principal in Paris and just earned this degree. We are very proud of her and the very hard work she has done to accomplish this. She is the first Doctor in the family. I feel strange calling her doctor. I have now deemed her the nickname of Double D. Again Congrats Martha, we love you.

Origins of the Red Poppies sold during Memorial Day

In 1915, inspired by the poem "In Flanders Fields," Moina Michael replied with her own poem:

We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.

She then conceived of an idea to wear red poppies on Memorial day in honor of those who died serving the nation during war. She was the first to wear one, and sold poppies to her friends and co-workers with the money going to benefit servicemen in need. Later a Madam Guerin from France was visiting the United States and learned of this new custom started by Ms.Michael and when she returned to France, made artificial red poppies to raise money for war orphaned children and widowed women. This tradition spread to other countries. In 1921, the Franco-American Children's League sold poppies nationally to benefit war orphans of France and Belgium. The League disbanded a year later and Madam Guerin approached the VFW for help. Shortly before Memorial Day in 1922 the VFW became the first veterans' organization to nationally sell poppies. Two years later their "Buddy" Poppy program was selling artificial poppies made by disabled veterans. In 1948 the US Post Office honored Ms Michael for her role in founding the National Poppy movement by issuing a red 3 cent postage stamp with her likeness on it.
Traditional observance of Memorial day has diminished over the years. Many Americans nowadays have forgotten the meaning and traditions of Memorial Day. At many cemeteries, the graves of the fallen are increasingly ignored, neglected. Most people no longer remember the proper flag etiquette for the day. While there are towns and cities that still hold Memorial Day parades, many have not held a parade in decades. Some people think the day is for honoring any and all dead, and not just those fallen in service to our country.

Changes are good!

We are going through major overhaul where I work at. (USA Truck) They are implementing a new strategy to get drivers home more often and to have them haul in the same lanes(same customers). Of course we have the ones that have been here since the company started and thinks things are good the way they are. I am liking the change and I look at this way, I still have a job to come to. Granted I don't like moving desk every 3 mths but they have ensured us that this is the last major change we do for a long while. My hrs are even going to change which I am excited about. I will be getting off earlier, but I will have to be here before the chickens even wake up. Again I think change is good. It keeps the monotony of this job exciting. I pray everyone have a Blessed week and weekend.

LWCC RIVER VALLEY TODDLERS

I made it to church last night finally after a week of "bad medicine". I didn't realize how drained I had become without my church family. I had to teach the toddlers, which makes my whole week when I do. They are so full of life and love. I just want to let everyone know that LWCC River Valley has the best toddlers I know. They are very receptive of everything you teach. I love them sooooo much. I just wanted the parents and our pastors to know what a joy and honor it is to be placed in such position of teaching God's next spirit filled warriors. As a church we need to pray for our children daily or even more because they are growing up in such a fast paced, materialistic world. We need to keep them lifted up in following in God's steps. It just galls me to see what satan is doing to our nations children. We need to STAND UP and fight for what God has put in our possession to teach, to love, to cherish, OUR CHILDREN.

God's Memo

To: YOU
Date: TODAY
From: GOD
Subject: YOURSELF
Reference: LIFE

This is God. Today I will be handling
All of your problems for you. I do Not
need your help. So, have a nice day.
I love you.

P.S. And, remember..
If life happens to deliver a situation to you
that you cannot handle, do Not attempt to
resolve it yourself! Kindly put it in the SFGTD
(something for God to do) box. I will get to it in
MY TIME. All situations will be resolved, but
in My time, not yours

Once the matter is placed into the box, do not
hold onto it by worrying about it. Instead, focus
on all the wonderful things that are present in
your life now.

Should you decide to send this to a friend;
Thank you. You may have touched their life
in ways you will never know!

Now, you have a nice day.

God

God has seen you struggling,
God says it's over.
A blessing is coming your way.

I was sent this e-mail this morning. I wanted to pass it along.
